X5 Retail Group N.V.
LSE-listed X5 Retail Group N.V. is the largest food retail company in Russia in terms of sales. X5 Retail Group N.V. includes retail chains Pyaterochka, Perekrestok and Karusel. The company uses a multi-formatted strategy to develop three formats simultaneously: soft discounters, supermarkets and hypermarkets.
The Group’s Net Sales (consolidated) reached US $11.3 bln in 2010 with a total net trading area of approximately 1,555,000 m2. In 2010, approximately 1.2 billion people shopped at the Group’s stores. More than 90,000 people work at the Group. As of 31 December 2010, the total number of the Group's stores (excluding franchises) was 2,469 (includes 660 rebranded Kopeyka stores).
Pyaterochka
Pyaterochka is one of the largest food retailers in Russia with a dominant position in the high-growth discounter segment, offering a product range of up to 5,500 items covering the day-to-day needs of its customers.
As of 31 December 2010 Pyaterochka had a chain of 1,392 company-managed stores located in Moscow, St. Petersburg areas and other Russian regions.
Perekrestok
Perekrestok opened the doors of its first supermarket in September 1995. The chain consists of two store formats: convenience stores and supermarkets. As of December 2010 Perekrestok had a chain of 301 company-managed stores (and 45 convenience stores) in Russia.
In summer 1998, Perekrestok opened its own distribution centre (17,500 m2) providing significant and unprecedented cost and logistical advantages over its competitors. In 2005 Perekrestok entered into the other CIS markets by acquiring the SPAR supermarket chain in Ukraine.
Since its founding, Perekrestok has received important support from world-wide credit and financial institutions and continues this co-operation today.
As one of the first movers into the Russian retail sector, Perekrestok continues to expand and strengthen its position on the Russian market and, today, is rightfully considered one of the most competitive and efficient retail trade structures in Russia.
Karusel
Karusel operates in the north-west of Russia, including St.Petersburg, the Moscow region, Nizhny Novgorod, Dzerzhinsk, Volgograd, Izhevsk, Samara, Kazan, Tyumen and Ekaterinburg. At 31 December 2010 there were 71 hypermarkets operating under the Karusel brand.
