Mikhail Fridman, Chairman of Alfa Group, speaks on Investment Opportunities and Perceptions of Business at Alfa-Bank’s Third Ukrainian Investment Forum in Kiev

Alfa-Bank and Alfa Capital Ukraine held the Third country-focused Investment Forum “The Politics of Prosperity” in Kiev on January 23, 2006. The Forum brought together top decision makers from the National Bank of Ukraine, local and foreign investors and senior business executives for face-to-face discussions on Ukraine's new economic agenda, the future of its capital markets and privatization program as well as other business opportunities in sectors such as metals, energy, telecoms and others.

For 2006, the guest speakers participating in the Forum included Executive director of the National Bank of Ukraine Igor Shumilo,Russia's Ambassador to Ukraine Victor Chernomyrdin and Boris Nemtsov, Adviser of President of Ukraine.

Mikhail Fridman, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alfa Group Consortium, addressed the Forum on Monday January 23rd. With its diverse business interests in oil and gas, telecom, banking and retail, the Alfa Group has been one of the largest foreign investors in Ukraine since 1991. “We look forward to continuing to give investors the chance to investigate investment opportunities at our annual conference in Kiev. Recent events have again confirmed the importance of this market for both Russia and Europe. It is a challenging environment where local insight and first-hand knowledge is key to making the right choices”, said M. Fridman.

During the Forum investors discussed business strategies of Ukrainian financial-industrial groups and top-tier companies including Interpipe, Energy Standart, Mittal Steel Kryvoy Roh, Ukrtelecom, Poltavsky GOK and others.

A two-day travel program following the Forum will enable participants to visit Mariupol and Donetsk to meet with leading companies and potential partners in the region.

In addition to organizing conferences and investor trips, Alfa-Bank and Alfa Capital Ukraine issue regular research reviews focusing on the economy and investment climate in Russia and Ukraine.
