Richard Sobel a former ING Baring Executive appointed Chief Executive Officer of Alfa Private Equity Ltd., and affiliate of Alfa Bank, Russia 22 Dec 2003
From 1994-1997 Mr. Sobel founded and ran Baring Asset Management"s $160 million First NIS Regional Fund, SICAF. While at Barings Sobel"s distinguished Russian investment track record includes investments he led in Vimpelcom, Golden Telecom, Borjomi, Burren Energy, Global Telesis and Alfa Cement among others. Sobel subsequently worked with CIBC Oppenheimer & Co. in Russia, and prior to Barings worked with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, based in Moscow, and with Bain and Company in Boston, MA. From 1999 to early 2003 Sobel was a senior executive at New York based PartMiner, Inc., a leading on-line content provider and market maker for the global semiconductor industry.
