Appointment of Rt Hon Lord Robertson of Port Ellen as Deputy Chairman of the TNK-BP Board

TNK-BP today announced the appointment of Rt Hon Lord Robertson of Port Ellen KT, CGMG, Hon FRSE, to its Board of Directors as Deputy Chairman of the Board and the Chairman of the Board’s Audit Committee. The appointment is effective from 1 October 2006.

Lord Robertson was nominated by BP and replaces Dick Olver.  Mr Olver was appointed to the Board in mid-2004 and has decided to step down from his position as Deputy Chairman.  Mr. Olver said “I took this appointment 2½ years ago when I retired as Deputy Chief Executive of BP plc.  My focus has been helping to bed down the TNK-BP joint venture.  This is now operating well and I am very pleased that Lord Robertson has agreed to help steer the venture through its next phase of development.”

TNK-BP expressed its appreciation to Mr Olver for his invaluable guidance and expertise during the critical formative period of the company’s development.

Lord Robertson, former Secretary General of NATO and British Defence Secretary is presently Non-Executive Chairman of Cable and Wireless International.  From February 2004 to April 2006 he was Executive Deputy Chairman of Cable and Wireless plc.  He is a Non-Executive Director of the Weir Group plc and Western Ferries (Clyde) Ltd and Advisor to the Washington-based consultancy The Cohen Group and to private equity group Englefield Capital.  Until February 2006 he was a Non-Executive Director of The Smiths Group plc. 

Together with his recent business and private sector knowledge Lord Robertson brings extensive Russian experience. He was the founding Chairman of the NATO-Russia Council and is co-Chairman of the UK-Russia Round Table.

Lord Robertson has an MA (Honours) degree from Dundee University in Scotland. He is married to Sandra and has three children.

TNK-BP

TNK-BP is a major, vertically integrated Russian oil and gas company. In 2007, average daily oil production totaled 1.6 million barrels per day (excluding a 50% interest of Slavneft). TNK-BP operates five refineries (four in Russia and one in Ukraine) and nearly 1,600 branded retail outlets across both countries.
