Alfa Bank and TNK-BP bring Paul McCartney to play his concert in St. Petersburg's Palace Square 20 Jun 2004
"Our visit to Russia last year was really fantastic," said McCartney. "The people of St. Petersburg and Moscow for that matter, were so gracious and made us feel so welcome that I promised that we'd be back again. I mean't it. I'm really looking forward to giving the people of St. Petersburg a show that they will never forget." Paul McCartney's performance in St. Petersburg was a part of his 13-city "04 Summer Tour" and included the music from The Beatles, Wings and his solo career. "04 Summer Tour" could boast the largest outdoor video system EVER, nearly 80,000 pounds of equipment. There were pyrotechnics and a massive stage set, which was use 18 production rigs to carry from gig to gig. Two 18-meters-stage-screens were installed in Palace Square so that the spectators can watch and take pleasure from this up-to-date musical show. More then 50,000 spectators attended at Paul McCartney's performance in St. Petersburg. It was the second visit to Russia for Mr. McCartney. Last May Alfa Bank, TNK and BP brought McCartney to play his concert in Moscow's Red Square. Paul McCartney's performance in Moscow was a part of his European tour Back in the World 2003 - his first tour in 10 years. McCartney's performances under Back in the World included more than 30 songs, including unforgettable Beatles hits, Wings compositions as well as recently written songs. The stage was set up between the St. Basil's Cathedral and the Spasskaya's Tower of the Kremlin. The giant show was marked a personal dream-come-true for Paul McCartney, who wrote The Beatles' rocker "Back In The U.S.S.R." in the Sixties.
