Alfa Bank Leads RussiaDeal League Table of Top 25 Financial Advisers in 2003
20 Jan 2004

Alfa Bank holds the leading position in the table with a total deal value of $ 8.931 billion from 12 transactions. The first six banks in the table were financial advisors for the landmark $8 billion joint venture between BP and Alfa Group / Access-Renova, signed in London on June 26th, 2003. Along with the BP-TNK deal, the other transactions contributing to Alfa Bank' s first place are the sale of ICN Pharmaceuticals assets in Russia and the acquisitions of 49% stakes in Eniseytelecom and BaykalWestCom for Sibirtelecom. Alfa Bank' s corporate finance department is headed by Mr. Alexandr Tolchinsky, Member of the Executive Board. Alfa Bank was named Best M&A Advisor and Best Bank in Russia by Global Finance magazine in 2003. "The Energy sector has been one of the driving industries behind Russian and European M&A in 2003. Alfa Bank' s successful performance in M&A and our leading the League Table is based on high professionalism of the bank' s corporate finance team and invaluable partnership with best financial institutions both in Russia and West," says Kirill Stein, Director, Deputy Head of Corporate Finance. According to the RussiaDeal News Release, the league table includes deals with any Russian involvement completed between January 1, 2003 and December 31, 2003 and made aware to RussiaDeal. The table includes acquisitions, mergers, fairness opinions, share placements/issues, privatizations and debt restructurings. In the case of mergers, the deal value is assumed to be equal to the value of the stake in the target company. The table does not include the pending acquisition of Sibneft by Yukos.
