Alfa Bank Issues First Social Report
02 Sep 2004

Alfa Bank has published its Social Report for 2003, highlighting Alfa Bank's contributions in the areas of art, culture and charity. Throughout its history, Alfa Bank has perceived its reputation as its most valuable asset; to this end, Alfa Bank was one of the first among Russian companies to recognize its civic responsibility.

"The notion of corporate social responsibility is not new for Russia: there had been historical traditions of patronage of art and charity in Russia before the revolution, but a new impetus given to the Russian business towards social responsibility came up most recently," said Alexander Gafin, a Member of the Bank's Board of Directors. "Our Social report is not just an accounting to the shareholders, it is one of the fundamental lines of reporting, an instrument to show our customers and investors that our social responsibilities are being met."

Alfa Bank is a Trustee of the Bolshoi Theater and a member of the Russian WWF Corporate Club. The Bank has founded Alfa Chance Program to support the talented youth from Russian regions.

In 2003, Alfa Bank sponsored an Exhibition "Kasimir Malevich: Suprematism" at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, a tour of Russian Ballet premier dancers in London, an open competition for the design of a monument to Joseph Brodsky in St. Petersburg, the concerts by Paul McCartney and Robbie Williams, a tour of Famous opera of G. Verdi La Traviata staged by Franco Zeffirelli, and many other theatrical festivals and exhibitions in the regions. Alfa Bank's social activities are not confined to famous projects only: in 2003 the Bank continued to render financial assistance to the regional and charity programs, the Charity Fund Church and Culture, and the Russian Orthodox Church.

"We are confident that the future of our business is directly linked with the social stability, culture and prosperity in Russia. Moreover, we believe that it is in our power to make the society more stable, self-confident and happy", - said Alexander Gafin.
