MegaFon-Siberia Comes into Omsk Region

November 7, 2006, Russia, Omsk. Siberian regional office of OJSC “MegaFon”, the first pan-Russian mobile operator, announces launching its network into commercial use in Omsk region – a 83 region of “MegaFon” network coverage area.
On November 7, MegaFon-Siberia launches its network into commercial use in Omsk region. At initial stage there are built 50 GSM 900/1800 base stations that provide uninterrupted network functioning and high quality connection, thus enabling residents of the region to use modern mobile services. A switch with 100 000 numbering capacity is installed in Omsk. Huawei Technologies acted as telecommunication equipment vendor.
Two branded salons, that are to be opened on the day of the network launch in 15 Mayakovaskaya st. and 26 Mira st., will provide customer addition and other services in Omsk region as well as dealer network, amounting about 250 sales points. In the first half of 2007 express-service office for MegaFon customers will be opened in Omsk.
Muslim Muhamediyarov, MegaFon-Siberia Commercial Director: «We offer to Omsk region subscribers “Ediny” tariff that became one of the most popular and favorite among subscribers of «MegaFon-Syberia» network. It is unique due to absence of monthly fee, per-second charging, free of charge calls within «MegaFon-Siberia» network and low cost of calls to any number (both mobile and fixed) within “MegaFon-Siberia” coverage area – only a ruble and a half».
In Siberia MegaFon realizes no-roaming area, including Krasnoyarsk and Altai Territory, Republic of Khakassiya, Norilsk industrial region, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Kemerovo and Omsk regions. This implies that MegaFon-Siberia subscribers, being at any specified regions, may communicate and use all services under home tariffs.
High level of technical development and use of new technologies provide opportunity to all users of “MegaFon” network to acquire a single package of services and value added services. High-speed access to the Internet (GPRS/EDGE), information and entertainment MegaFonPRO SIM- and WAP-portals, MMS and SMS, services of content providers –«MegaFon» partners – are now also available to customers in Omsk region.
Novosibirsk region was the first Siberia region where MegaFon came. This happened in December 2003. Today MegaFon coverage area includes Kemerovo, Tomsk and Novosibirsk regions, Krasnoyarsk and Altai Territories. The number of MegaFon-Siberia subscribers – 1 157 366 people (as of 01.11.2006).
According to AC&M Consulting, cellular communications penetration in Omsk region as of the end of Q3’06 is 89,5%; the number of mobile subscribers – 1 860 000. Region’s population as of 2002 census - 2 079 200 people; area - 139,7K sq. km.
