Founded in 1989 as the first major trading company of Alfa Group, Alfa-Eco (A1's predecessor) built a large and diversified business in producing and trading a wide range of diversified commodities and products both domestically and internationally including oil and oil products, coal, metallurgical products, agricultural products, alcoholic beverages and pulp and paper products. During its history, Alfa-Eco also made significant investment into wireless telecommunications.
New project of A1 in 2008 includes investment into mining projects (various precious and rare-earth metals extraction throughout the world).
Since completing the restructuring of its business in 2004-2005, A1 is now focused exclusively on making large-scale proprietary and for-client investment into Russia, the CIS as well as other emerging markets. The Company's long-term focus is on both strategic and portfolio investment into sustainable competitive businesses, offering high-quality products and services, which are often new to Russia and the markets where the Company operates, and implementing an efficient system of corporate organization and management.
